Our little town holds a Memorial Day parade and a service at the monument every year, and every year I bring the kids because it is important to me that they understand the sacrifices made for our freedom, and to respect the flag, our soldiers, veterans, and country. And this year was no exception. We watched the parade out in front of my mom's house, and this year mom showed the kids (again) how to salute the flag, and to stand when it goes by (as well as for the pledge/national anthem, etc.). After the service we came back to our house for a little lunch with Meme and some rest (it's been a busy several weeks).
If you know a veteran or soldier, thank them...you owe them your freedom. And if you know a soldier or veteran who has passed away, thank you for their sacrifice. There is at least one family in a small town who appreciates it.

That is great that you do that with them. Not enough people respect or appreciate our soldiers and veterans. Good for you!
